| 1. | Tue, 6/5/07 6:50 PM | It is hard to respond to that question seeing all the sub divisions are not completed yet. I opened up athletics and the site is still under construction. |
| 2. | Tue, 6/5/07 6:56 PM | Student Life content area has to be updated. Information on Residence Life is now over a year old and outdated.
The directions lead one to the main gate on Montauk Ave with no further direction on how to get to Henry Hall. This should be included.
The original website had 4 sections to choose from the beginning. Although the new website has more specific groups from the beginning to navigate from (current, prospective, parents, general public) there should be even fewer than 4. The first three groups have concrete labels and identity whereas the last group you wouldn't know what is in that part of the website short of clicking on it and finding info.
OVerall the same organization is found on each page yet there is no information in the parents/alumni section for parents of students living on campus. This would be a place to advertise when move in/out is etc.
The search engine did not work at all when I entered in "student life" when I was on the parent section. |
| 3. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:02 PM | The segration of topics was clear and each area contained a large amount of choices. |
| 4. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:08 PM | The Site is very busy almost to much graphic when you open. the titles to location are small and don't stand out against the back ground. |
| 5. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:09 PM | It wouldn't let me sign in so I quit. I move frequently so, how should I know what home town you have on record. |
| 6. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:14 PM | The menu selection is very clear and separated enough to make page loading fast. |
| 7. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:16 PM | web site should follow Web best practices. A good reference is Prioritizing Web Usabiity by Jakob Nielsen.
Small black type on red background is hard to read. To much going on - you are not sure where to look first. The scrolling news bulletin takes your attention away. Not a clear hierarchy on the pages |
| 8. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:17 PM | Mitchell college's mission is not clearly defined it is lost amongst the sea of links. |
| 9. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:20 PM | Since the site is under construction, it is hard to say whether content is complete, accurate, and so forth. As a work in progress, it is certainly an improvement, with the exception of the intrusive wave sound. |
| 10. | Tue, 6/5/07 7:40 PM | A number of the sites had no content so I rated them N/A. I did not like the annimated news headline. I'd rather go link to a static text site maybe looking like a Mitchell Seal news letter. I'd like to see a look up directory for each year for alumni with the ability for us to update our information including email address if we wish to give them out. |
| 11. | Tue, 6/5/07 8:24 PM | It always seems to me whenever I go on a college or university site they put too much emphasis on the athletics page.....however that is just me. Overall it looks very nice, keep up the good work. |
| 12. | Tue, 6/5/07 8:25 PM | I think the website could be made to appear even more friendly, more easy to use and navigate. Use larger fonts, as I had to search at first for what I was wanting. |
| 13. | Tue, 6/5/07 8:38 PM | Since the content of different areas is not available, it is not easy to judge! The areas of students and faculty are not yet developed. |
| 14. | Tue, 6/5/07 9:08 PM | Overall I felt the design and navigation left a lot to be desired. The design seemed to interfere rather then assist navigation. On each first landing page you present the reader with dozens of links to sub-pages. Sure, it's a good way to minimize the number of clicks to a specific page but there's no clear eyepath, so I don't know where to start. Prioritize and present fewer options to create a site that is easier and has a cleaner look. Consider using a main navigation bar with drop down menus. Also, right now when a page is selected it appears "below the fold" - that is, you have to scroll down to view the new content.
Other ideas:
New page elements should be visible “above the fold” or visible upon initial page presentation without scrolling.
When comparing subpages many links appear redundant, look for ways to consolidate some in a "general" category to improve page impact and reduce clutter.
Use more "white space" areas without text or graphics, current design seems cluttered.
Consider a common color palette for the entire site instead of changing the color scheme by type of user. One color scheme will help to build a more consistent, positive and memorable brand image. |
| 15. | Tue, 6/5/07 9:26 PM | There needs to be more up to date pictures of students and faculty. |
| 16. | Tue, 6/5/07 9:49 PM | Many of the links I went to said "coming soon" so it is difficult to give you feedback until we see the displayed pages. I am most interested in seeing the Athletics portion improved as potential student athletes utilize colleges' websites for gathering information.
Over all opinion......MAJOR improvement. I am looking forward to the new website getting up and running. |
| 17. | Tue, 6/5/07 9:49 PM | The students portrayed are NOT real students. |
| 18. | Tue, 6/5/07 9:52 PM | I think it looks neat. It make it easier to look what you need to find. |
| 19. | Tue, 6/5/07 10:00 PM | I think that the c ourse catalog should have a link on the home page. Also, there should be a general listing of faculty and staff in the pertinant section |
| 20. | Tue, 6/5/07 10:50 PM | The new web site is FABULOUS!!!!! So much easier than the old one.....great graphics, it's exciting! Just hope I can get into the alumni community...it didn't accept me. |
| 21. | Tue, 6/5/07 11:17 PM | The previous layout was nicer |
| 22. | Tue, 6/5/07 11:27 PM | I couldn't log in as an alumni |
| 23. | Tue, 6/5/07 11:37 PM | Nothing to elaborate, my experience on the new Mitchell website, was good. |
| 24. | Wed, 6/6/07 12:44 AM | Feel there is too much graphic on the site, very few photos of the school and the very pretty grounds and surrounding area (the dorms the diary, the local beach etec.) as a past alumni and photographer of the year book was suprised to see so few photos |
| 25. | Wed, 6/6/07 12:55 AM | I think that it was a tremendous challenge to find a way to deliver all the information respective to each category. I think you did a great job with this. However, suggestions I would make is that on the first page-- There should be a site search area. It is also very strange to have the search bar on the left page and in the middle of the page- most people are trained to look at the left top corner and also expect to see a navigation back to the former page/home page. Honestly, I got a headache looking at the first page after only minutes on it. Please take my comments constructively because they are not meant as discouragement. |
| 26. | Wed, 6/6/07 1:10 AM | I think that the now website was really good. |
| 27. | Wed, 6/6/07 1:43 AM | I am looking at the site mostly in terms of design and functionality, and I feel that it is lacking in both categories. First of all, I don't see the need for 4 separate portals into the site. This seems confusing and often times redundant, and should probably be streamlined. If I am searching for a specific heading (ie "academics), there is no way for me to know which category I am to access it through, or what it is going to say once I get there, as the content seems to change.
The jump from the home page to the secondary pages is abrupt, and would benefit from a stronger sense of visual cohesion. The navigation is treated in the same typeface and style as the body copy and thus is not immediately read as navigation. Pages should not reload each time they are clicked, and when they do reload, the content seems to jump up and down on the page (the text/images should be the only thing that reloads – not the backgrounds). Overall, the design is a busy and the structure and typography, erratic. |
| 28. | Wed, 6/6/07 11:25 AM | I think the new web site is fun to use. Some pictures change; some stay the same. I think it reflects the dynamic energy of Mitchell. Mitchell is a place for students with all kinds of needs, and the website reflects that too. |
| 29. | Wed, 6/6/07 11:45 AM | I wanted to see what sports were offered at Mitchell and I could not find that information. |
| 30. | Wed, 6/6/07 12:06 PM | Too heavily graphics oriented; distracting to ability to access basic info. Also, due to heavy graphics at top, each page requires user to have to scroll down to read content. Users don't want to do that every time they click onto a page. Graphics are too sailing/navigating oriented. Misleads students to thinking its a great beach party. Student photos are not representative of the diverse student population we actually enroll. |
| 31. | Wed, 6/6/07 12:39 PM | It is very hard to capture the true essence of campus life and culture in a website. It is like an online brochure. Sunny weather, smiling faces, beautiful views, etc. We all know that things are not as perfect as portrayed on the website. It wasn't perfect in the late 60's when I was there nor is it now I would guess. Overall the new website looks very good and has inspired me to try and make a campus visit sometime soon. I can't remember the last time I was on campus. |
| 32. | Wed, 6/6/07 1:02 PM | i can't get to the alumni page so i didn't stay on to long. |
| 33. | Wed, 6/6/07 1:17 PM | No comment |
| 34. | Wed, 6/6/07 1:48 PM | I felt the website was user-friendly. It appealed to me. I would suggest that you ask people that are not technology literate to use the website. |
| 35. | Wed, 6/6/07 4:11 PM | I tried to get to the alumni section and the id/pw combination of firstname, lastname, year of graduation and town didn't get a hit. I exited. |
| 36. | Wed, 6/6/07 4:12 PM | This website does not seem focused on what makes a college a college--getting an academic education. It was difficult, at best, to find important information such as:
the cost of attendance (tuition, room & board, fees);
the academic affairs section is buried and only available in some of the four main area choices; and NO FOCUS on our diversity emphasis, which most of us find critically important in who Mitchell is.
Too much glitz and not enough content. |
| 37. | Wed, 6/6/07 4:18 PM | This is beautiful! I have visited old site many times in past 4 years some times finally finding something and then next time not able to find it again!
Huge inprovement and front page is great
"good job" to the designer |
| 38. | Wed, 6/6/07 4:39 PM | I would like to see the site be a little less busy. If you need to have all the information listed, maybe expand the box with less black frame space on the sides. |
| 39. | Wed, 6/6/07 4:52 PM | The new web site is nicely organized; easy to use and fairly easy to read...though I find yellow and red backgrounds a bit more difficult to read text from...overall, though, very nice and user friendly...which is very important. |
| 40. | Wed, 6/6/07 11:06 PM | I really likr the lay out of the site as a whole you have everything you are looking for right on the page after you make that first click. I especially like the water gushing noise |
| 41. | Thu, 6/7/07 12:20 PM | No time. |
| 42. | Thu, 6/7/07 3:23 PM | It is not difficult to find the department or area you are looking for but the content is not good and there is way too much text. The pages are too busy. It needs to look cleaner and easier to read. |
| 43. | Thu, 6/7/07 6:10 PM | [>Obviously site under construction...so take 'ratings' w/grain of salt.] >Home page especially is very 'busy' -lots of graphics, moving things, etc. >It's slightly difficult to read the yellow and the white text (not bolded, not large, not highlighted) on solid red or blue background. >photos don't change with new 'topic'/page.>There's no Alum. content (photos, list, alum. search, etc.) >You have to scroll down to get to the main content of EVERY page(yet the photos stay the same - confusing!)! |
| 44. | Thu, 6/7/07 8:04 PM | i really dont like how the pictueres are on the glasses, it was a good idea but it does not work for this website |
| 45. | Fri, 6/8/07 12:26 AM | Some areas could not be viewed because site is still under construction -hence the n/a marks. The first alumni page shows very sucessful, yet older alumnus, as an 18 yr old recruit they will relate better to the pic of the alumni on the beach. This picture says "Make long term connections and friends." Not come to school and graduate to look like your Mom. Which I am and do now! |
| 46. | Sat, 6/9/07 2:11 AM | The new mitchell web site I like more because the links are easyier to find and click on. I like the disign that is on the background better. I like how it shows the bookstore now. Before I could not find it on the mitchell web site |
| 47. | Sat, 6/9/07 2:10 PM | I didn't have the time to look through the site as thoroughly as i would have liked to. As a result I can't give you the answers you were looking for. |
| 48. | Wed, 6/13/07 2:15 PM | it was good, not great, not poor. |
| 49. | Wed, 6/13/07 4:35 PM | nice |
| 50. | Wed, 6/13/07 4:44 PM | there's a lot of scrolling. there are also links to some departments from the current students section that have different information on them than the future students section - how do we know where to go first? It will also require updating info in two places. I do like that there are quicklinks, but I'm not sure how the quicklinks options were chosen. Some pages have really long lists of links on the left - can these be separated into groups using headers so that it's easier to find what you're looking for? And will there be a text-only version of the page for people using screen readers? |
| 51. | Wed, 6/13/07 5:17 PM | The very first page is too busy; there are too many moving objects. Busy background makes it difficult to read white lettering. Moving images distract attention.
Don't like the image with sunglasses. I think it creates a wrong impression about Mitchell as a "party" school. This page along with the sound reminds me of the introductory pages of computer games.
Here are the problems I find with the “area” pages:
-Moving part on the right distracts attention; it is enough to read it once on the first page.
-Background color makes it difficult to read the text; black on white would be ideal.
- The menu on the top is the same font/ style as the rest of the text; the picture on the top left is not needed
- Getting to the actual text requires scrolling down.
It looks like the "search" option is the same as "ask a question", which is limited to pre-defined choices. It doesn't seem to have the real search capablilites. |
| 52. | Wed, 6/13/07 5:36 PM | In each section of the home page- the vistor should find it very easy to get contact information for anybody on campus -whether by name or by department and the department needs to be clear. ex. Admissions, Financial Aid etc Enrollment mgt may be confusing to a vistor |
| 53. | Wed, 6/13/07 9:10 PM | when i go to mitchell.edu all i am able to do is read my e-mail. I dont know if thats all its soposto do. |
| 54. | Thu, 6/14/07 4:35 PM | I think there should be more pictures or at the very least not repeat the same picture for every page in a section. Boring, boring, boring. |
| 55. | Fri, 6/22/07 7:51 PM | The site did not work. I could not access any alumni infomation and it was very slow to load. |
| 56. | Fri, 6/22/07 7:53 PM | was not evident how you find events on the front page |
| 57. | Fri, 6/22/07 8:13 PM | Great sound effects/graphics. Makes me want to attend the school again as it reminds me of water and great times that I had. |
| 58. | Fri, 6/22/07 8:26 PM | Being an alumni of Micthell - my sole purpose of going on here is to find out if any Alumni have been on, made any comments on a comments page/notes section - to see what they are up to - and to see if anyone is attending the Alumni Weekend. I could also see myself suggesting someone to attend here - and would love to be able to show off to them where I lived - East Winds the first year, Fair Haven the next. |
| 59. | Sat, 6/23/07 12:06 AM | I think it looks alot better than it did :-) |
| 60. | Sat, 6/23/07 2:15 AM | Am really not proficient with the computer, and I do not use it very often. |
| 61. | Sat, 6/23/07 5:13 AM | As an amateur web site designer, I was TOTALLY impressed with the use of the mouseovers and how quickly the graphics loaded on the "under construction site". (I am on a cable modem & they seemed to load faster than normal). |
| 62. | Sat, 6/23/07 12:02 PM | with no specific information posted on the areas i was interested in (alumni)- the question cannot be answered |
| 63. | Sat, 6/23/07 2:43 PM | 1) Faculty - I would like to see a list of faculty and a brief resume on each with any special awards or recognition.
2) Athletics - I would like to see a list of National Chanpionships and All-Americans. |
| 64. | Sat, 6/23/07 6:36 PM | I really like the four divisions (color coded!) and the way you have put everything on one page for students and parents (and me) to review. So, instead of having to search around the website for information, I know that everything is "clickable" from one page. Outstanding! |
| 65. | Sat, 6/23/07 11:04 PM | More graphics of the campus as you get deeper into a menu selection. The virtual tour will be a useful tool |
| 66. | Sun, 6/24/07 1:04 AM | We were hoping to see summer step info. As new parents the flow of info for the summer program has been somewhat slow. We will most likely use more of the site when our daughter starts school. |
| 67. | Sun, 6/24/07 4:51 AM | I enjoyed looking into the new MC website. It was very well organized and has a fresh new style. The pictures are updated which I think is excellent and shows how the college has developed over time. |
| 68. | Sun, 6/24/07 2:12 PM | I think it is much clearer and easier to find things than the old site. It was very hard to read (print size) |
| 69. | Sun, 6/24/07 4:03 PM | For years it's been very difficult to locate the Mitchell application on line; your new site isn't much better. Like other college sites, place "APPLY NOW!" on the front page or at least on the Admissions page. Even in the present format, if I quickly review the Admisions page, it is not clear the bottom form is an application. You need to make it very clear for students. |
| 70. | Sun, 6/24/07 11:20 PM | When I clicked on the link to the new website, it was a black page with the Mitchell College mailing address at the top. There was no content to review. |
| 71. | Mon, 6/25/07 12:06 AM | It was fine. I was not really looking for anything particular, so it makes it difficult to really judge. Progress is always good. I wish you the best.
~ Suzie Norgeot Schwebach ('75) |
| 72. | Mon, 6/25/07 2:37 AM | When I clicked on the links I was amazed on how everything loaded since it is a new web page and still getting worked on. I like what the Mitchell College web site looks like so far and can't wait till it gets finished and really check it out. |
| 73. | Mon, 6/25/07 3:02 PM | great new look! |
| 74. | Mon, 6/25/07 5:34 PM | Some of the sites are unavailable at this time |
| 75. | Mon, 6/25/07 8:52 PM | 1st year parent have not used the new site all
that much . Does seem to be designed well. |
| 76. | Tue, 6/26/07 11:12 AM | Site is easy to get to and easy to click on the information you are looking for. Graphics a interesting and clear. |
