Lisa Kenyon is our multi-tasking librarian of the month! She grew three extra arms so that she could shush, drink coffee, read, and check e-mail, all at the same time. Congrats Lisa! You look weird!

Days of Creativity, a new acquisition on display in the library, includes commentary on the back cover by Associate Dean Marc Goldsmith.

LITS Highlight!

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the LITS Campus Newsletter, the Chameleon!

The development of the Chameleon been a team effort in every respect, and it is this commitment to team building that I believe is LITS' greatest strength and is of the greatest benefit to the Mitchell community. LITS, or Library and Information Technology Services, is what now is commonly described in information services circles as a blended organization. It brings two traditionally distinct service units, the Library and the IT department, together as one, affording staff within those two areas the opportunity to maximize collaborative potential and to collectively build upon individual professional strengths and perspectives for the improvement of services to students, faculty, and staff.

Events

Cultural Events Hosted at the Library

The Library serves as a venue for art exhibitions throughout the course of the year. Art openings, lectures, book talks, and other events sponsored by the Humanities and Cultural Programming Advisory Board offer wonderful opportunities for the Mitchell Community and members of the greater New London community to come together in appreciation of the arts and literature. The emphasis is on multicultural representation and global perspective and on tapping into the wealth of creative talent that so energizes and enriches the area. The Humanities and Cultural Programming Advisory Board's website is a great site to bookmark or shortcut for quick reference to upcoming events.

New!

The beginning of 2008 is shaping up to be an exciting time in regards to the library collection! We have been purchasing a great deal of new books since September. In December we sent out the first edition of Booklights, an online newsletter featuring new titles on a specific area of interest. Stay tuned for our next edition, new acquisitions on World Religions.

New periodicals are also appearing on the shelves. We are particularly excited about titles to support the new Environmental Studies program such as E: Environment Magazine and Nature. To see a complete list of new periodicals, follow the link below:

Network and Administrative Technology

Mitchell College's partnership with Computer Aid, Inc. (CAI) was established for the LITS Support Center (LSC), College Network Services (CNS) and College Applications Support (CAS). An integral component of this relationship is the definition of and agreement on measurable performance standards. This is referred to as the Service Level Agreement or SLA. CAIs agreement document defines the SLA as follows:

"The SLA is intended to serve as a basis for measuring the success of the partnership between Mitchell and CAI by identifying the scope of services provided by CAI to Mitchell College."

LITS and CAI will be offering the community the opportunity to attend an information and Q&A session on the SLA on Thursday, March 20th, from 12:45-1:30 p.m., in the Weller Center. An invitation will be extended shortly.
